The
Koya Story
The idea
of getting a little dog was suggested to me in December 2001. After 9/11
New
York was in a very somber state and there was a profound air of loss and
sadness.
Anticipating that having a dog would provide comfort, enjoyment and unconditional
love, I
acquired Koya as an 8-week-old puppy in January 2002.
As a New Yorker, while walking Koya I've met so many dog owners whose
dogs are in the
same general age range as Koya, indicating to me that there was a definite
surge in the
desire for companionship and someone to be there especially in the immediate
aftermath
of 9/11.
Although I was finding accessories for Koya, it became evident that the
sleek leather
items I envisioned were practically non-existent. So with my sketches
and specs I
approached a local leather apparel manufacturer who agreed to work with
me, leading to
the development of my expanding KOYA DESIGN collection.
My world has been ever-enriched and enlivened by Koya's presence, and
I sense that
sentiment is universal among dog owners about their dogs. And so I'm thrilled
to provide a
showcase for the KOYA DESIGN items in his honor, with the hope you will
love them as
much as Koya does.
